Sounds like your system is more stable using the free MSTS replacement called Open Rails, you know, the application designed for 64 bit OS and beyond, and maybe its time for you to focus on some freeware and payware routes where all assets are provided and batch files don't exist. Most people just cannot split the atom without a few years of book learnin' under their belts.

Why are you posting multiple threads on the same problem

Common Sense must dictate to you that as there is a thriving community that's been using this software for 17 years now on every operating System (Good, bad and downright awful) that M$ has thrown up since they released MSTS it MUST be something wrong with either your set up .....or you're NOT following every bit of advice that you've been given previously in the other threads.

FIRSTLY.....when you've installed MSTS initially have you run the routes and activities that came with the disc?

There is NO bat file required on the initial install

    SECONDLY
.....have you installed C Cleaner and checked that all these installs haven't left all sorts of rubbish in your Registry. IF NOT WHY NOT?

Apart from those fundamental issues how many add-ons have you attempted to install since you installed MSTS?

IF you want to get MSTS running I suggest that you install the basic programme and THEN install Route Riter https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/tslib....rchid=10556755

This essential utility (one of many ...but one step at a time!) has a number of processes to check for errors in Route, Activities and stock.

Having installed MSTS (as per the Steam4Me tutorial) install Route Riter before ANYTHING else. READ the manual and run checks on ALL the default routes.

WHY? Well for a start it will familiarise you with the workings of the programme and secondly (believe it or not) the default actually has an error!!! ....so you'll get to see how the programme reports this.

NEXT, and this is very important NEVER install a whole bunch of add-ons in one go. If any have errors or missing components finding the relevant add-on just becomes more difficult. Install one at a time and check them with RR. Time consuming? Well you can be methodical and take time to be sure or you can waste hours trying to find an error.

MSTS is IMO way more complicated that FS9/FSX because each area depends upon all other areas of the programme being error free.

Once you can report that you've successfully followed this advice I can offer further advice on utilities that make running MSTS less fraught.

BUT until you can report this initial success it'll only add to the confusion

    Hi,
    @Geoff : Wise words, indeed

@reading rail roader : The strange thing is that, currently, there are two of you reporting very similar problems; you're not one and the same person, are you??!!
Many of us on this site have been successfully running MSTS on all Operating Systems from XP to Win 10. It's true that it can be a pain to get it working correctly, but there are only a few "rules", which have been iterated through this Forum many times, but Geoff mentioned the absolutely most essential one :
FIRSTLY.....when you've installed MSTS initially have you run the routes and activities that came with the disc?

Unless you have a working base installation, you will be fighting it all the way!

    Cheers,
    Ged

Just skipping the frustration and downloading open rails is very good advice. You can install MSTS to get the content, but save the aggravation of making it run. It's hard to tell from what you've written, but among the several reasons you could be getting problems is that it will not run on certain graphics cards.

Please read this link: https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...SKING-FOR-HELP In order to help you, YOU HAVE TO HELP US!! I didn't even see what OS you have. If Windows 10, you may have to use a nVidia graphics card. Rich

So we are supposed to Guess which routes have missing files?

You still have not told us the basics:
    PC characteristics ?
    Graphics Card?
    OS?

Sayin MSTS runs OK is not telling us anything. Saying the routes that come on the MSTS CDs (as in USA1 and USA2) run OK is more definitive.

If you want help, don't make us play guessing games!!!
