I thought this might lead to a manual so that I could find what I was looking for, but not to be.

Thank you GokuMK for the information on placing scenery objects in general, your instruction works great. Now another question regarding item placement. A long passenger platform needs to be parallel to the tracks, I am finding that the rotation to achieve this is too coarse using either the mouse or the number keys. It seems to adjust it just so that it is not parallel to the track, on end or the other is too far away and the other is too close.

Is there a way of getting a finer adjustment of rotation? Or is there a trick to get long platform objects to sit parallel to the track?

There is a checkbox called 'stick to target' under the select button. That will allow an object to align to tracks and/or roads. In the image below, the whistle post facing the camera was placed normally, but the one in the middle of the track facing away from us was placed using Stick to Target

I had hoped it would lead to a manual. I started using the editor and it is so much more capable than RE
and that is good. But it is so detailed, that I need a visual reference to go by, so I have stayed with RE
so far, because I know what it's tools will do.

There is "WORK IN PROGRESS" web version written by GOKU on his website: http://koniec.org/tsre5/

My reference is that PLUS additional comments and notes mostly from VINCE which is also in a "work-in-progress" PDF format. https://github.com/pwillard/TSRE5-Document It is created from simple text files versus some proprietary document format and uses a scripting language to create a PDF from it.

The "BOOK.PDF" is the current state of that work.

Excellent document Pete. However, I cannot download it, and apparently can only print a page at a time.
Can the document be provided in a downloadable format?

I might be able to feed some information to be added into the manual, since I use it regularly. I'll have to look through that manual again to see what's missing
