Biggest commodity was cement on the CNJ and L&HR. thats where the majority of the Northeastern hoppers gets around. and especially PRR "newer" hoppers, those were used for everything.. glass sand, silica sand (found in Lewistown, PA) and clay products. Old cars tend to leak cement dust all over, and gets too rock solid after getting pelted with rain..

From a series of ex Florida East Coast cars leased by CNJ in the seventies:

CNJ inherited about half of the Lehigh & New England fleet of covered hoppers. By the seventies these were the mainstay of sand service in southern New Jersey. Probably still used for cement too? Most carried their LNE reporting marks to the end of their days in the early Conrail era.

It's been about 90% complete for almost a year, which gives you some idea of how much time Chris and I have had for working on sim projects in 2021.

In March we were going through a long painful process of upgrading freight cars to our latest standards. That work still needs to be done. I can't speak for Chris, but for me, with a new grandson and a much busier work schedule, simulator stuff has gone from the back burner to falling off the stove.

Here's hoping we have some time in 2022!
