Default Another Silly Question Which Probably Has An Obvious Answer

I notice as I work along the route, yellow lines appearing above a track section as soon as I deselect it. Presumably that means I have auto add to the tdb enabled i.e. no need to hit "z". With a complex section coming up, I can't see any option to change that, i.e. so I can play around mixing and matching sections - or must I alter something manually in the settings.txt?

On the The Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor there is a Tablet. On it is written:
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
