Thread: What do I need to get back up and running?

Default What do I need to get back up and running?

Hi all. I've been away from train simming for several years. I'm thinking about installing MSTS and getting back up to speed, as it were.

I remember there were some must-have utilities like route-riter and conbuilder. I also remember things like MSTSBin and Otto's replacement track textures, etc. What's current as far as utilities and hacks go?

I mainly like installing new routes and rolling stock and just freestyle exploring. I occasionally will run an activity, but not often. I like to explore.

I aslo see that there is something new called open rails, and that it has some compatibility with MSTS stuff. What's the low-down on that?

    Thanks!

Basically what Scott said. Most of the content coming nowadays MSTS can't handle, even with the latest bin patches and other Utilities needed. Openrails should be everything you need.

What these two gentlemen, I assume they're gentlemen, said.
Also you may need the default MSTS routes installed if you want to use any of the routes from the file libraries.
A lot of the routes have a runme.bat that copies default shapes from the original default routes.
Otherwise OpenRails and TSRE have pretty much put MSTS to rest.

I am impressed with OR so far. Pretty slick.
