Thread: Removing deer hazard

    Default Removing deer hazard

How can you remove the deer and people hazards? Did this ages ago. It was simple & didn't require editing the route. But can't remember how.

    Hi Lance,

Did this so long ago I think this is what had to be done.

You can open the different hazard files in notepad and check what shape they call for and just remove the same. In the case of the Deer hazard, the shape that I no longer have with the rest of my shapes is called US1Deer.s, not sure of the names of the other hazards and their respective shapes.

But if you just alpha out the ace files couldn't you still hit them?

    Hi Paul,

Thanks. Thought it was something like that.

Route I was using was Marias 3.1. Search for US1deer.s didn't find it Search for 'deer' only found deer.haz. Did a recursive attrib reset in case somehow it had got system or hidden attributes. Still nothing. Searched US1 and US2 original routes with no us1deer.s.
The other hazard file is spotter.haz. That has female hiker and workman.
I ended up editing the haz files and just removing the file names. No deer and no silly hiker standing in the middle of the tracks.
Don't know where the deer shape file is but this method worked.

I was thinking about this in the middle of the night and wondered about just deleting the two hazard files. I too looked in every default route for the S files and found none, not sure where they would be generated from... and just now looked and found them in the Global>Shapes file in the main game folder. I have a route that I started a while ago, I'll removed the two hazard files and see if I get any errors when opening it.

Just removed the deer and spotter hazard files from the FJ&Gv2 and it opened fine in both MSTS and OpenRails.

    Curious Paul

Did your activity call for hazards?

    Rick,

It must have. There were heaps of deer and the occasional female hiker.
Just looked and they are in the main shapes folder.
