Thread: SLI based boxcar repaint wheel error

Default SLI based boxcar repaint wheel error

Hi to all, this is my first effort so hope it works out okay. I recently noticed that some great boxcar sets by Michelle have a wheels problem. I have double checked and all the SLI sets I have checked using what appears to be the same size shape appear to be errored. I have also checked with Peter O'Neill who agrees and supplied a screenshot as well. I would like to know if this is fixable or if being derived from what appears to be an SLI error we just live with it. Regards Mike

Is it only repaints? Did you check the SLI originals?

Appears to be a SHAPE problem NOT a TEXTURE problem.

Yes, that's a shape problem. It was fixed in a subsequent release of the same shape in another set.

No update for the original set? So unless you bought the set with the fixed shape you were SOL?

Did you use the Shape file from WP96106 according to instructions? If not, then thats the cause, improperly correct shape file.. it will not work if you are using other shape files.

You could re-size or shift it in SFM.

Hi Dave and Charles...it sure is nice to see that folks have learned to read and follow documentation.... while it's possible to sub shapefiles from other Rolling Stock by SLI, there is usually a "trade-off" as in this case...shape file manager might indeed be a viable solution to fixing the issue.

More like a bonus for frequent shoppers... lol

Going over my purchasing history notes

The car's trucks were correctly centered in the newsprint freight car pack, but the wheels lacked the current style of tread reflection.

The revised car shape has the current wheeltreads, but also had improperly offset trucks. That shape was released in:

DRGW Green River route (DRGW and WP)
UP for DRGW Green River (Golden West)
    CN GP9U set (CN)

The shape was finally fixed in the CP GP9U set (CP and CPI)
and all releases of the car shape after that, including the recent Ruel Sub.

The offset trucks can also be fixed by editing the shape manually for those individuals who are capable.

Find the BOGIE lines under the Matrices section, find the first decimal coordinates for both (highlighted in red), and make that first number for each bogie 0.0

Thanks for all the feedback gents. Yes I should have made it totally clear that I followed the readme notes exactly. The first thing I did after finding the error was to check the suggested WP car which proves the error is in that set (and a few others that all use that or similar 340KB file). Geepster775 many thanks for your correction data, I have since changed the matrices to the correction you have given us. Now I will do the same in all the other SLI sets that display that error, and of course Michelles great repaints. Thanks to Peter O'Neill for suggesting I come on here and ask the experts. Greetings all from Aotearoa/New Zealand

    Hi Geepster.

I have been reading the thread here and I am glad that someone noticed it. I pulled out one of the Green River box cars S file out to look at it and mine does not have part of the number squence you have listed.

    50ft_BOX_DRGW61340.s

    matrices ( 7
    matrix BOX_EX_PLU ( 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 )
    matrix BOGIE1 ( 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0.510214 6.1933 )
    matrix WHEELS12 ( 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0.000240058 -0.0374033 -0.858578 )
    matrix WHEELS11 ( 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0.000240028 -0.0374036 0.859092 )
    matrix BOGIE2 ( 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0.508873 -6.19724 )
    matrix WHEELS21 ( 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0.000240028 -0.0374025 0.859307 )
    matrix WHEELS22 ( 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0.000240065 -0.0374019 -0.8592 )
    )

Notice on the Bogie there is only 2 sets of numbers listed not 3.
