Default Brake Values Available in the Cab ?

    Hi Folks,

Been driving with HUD’s so much - what actual brake values are truly available to the engineer - in the cab - to do this realistically ?

    Steam Locomotives

    Electric Locomotives

    Diesel Locomotives

    Thanks...

    Regards,
    Scott

    Diesel and probably electric:

    Main reservoir pressure
    Independent brake pressure
    Equalizing reservoir pressure
    Brake line pressure
Dynamic brake force, on units so equipped (often part of an ammeter or something similar)

Rear Brake Pipe Pressure is visible to the engineer when a device is armed or linked to a rear DPU. What control engineer has when armed is the ability to put the rear in emergency instead of starting at the front (Simple as open rear angle cock). Brake Pipe front an rear engineer tests air flow, leakage, time of applications and release.

I don't know if OR has an air flow gauge to show how much air has to be put into the line to maintain pressure (read: how much is leaking out), but on most older stands, there is one
