Thread: Freeware routes and rolling stock

Question Freeware routes and rolling stock

    Hello,

I am looking for a/some good website(s) where I can get freeware rolling stock and routes for MSTS/OpenRails. I'm now using Treinpunt.nl but there are small things that aren't available such as commuter trains from the USA , TGV/Thalys, Renfe Ave and high-speed routes.
The most wanted on my list are Amtrak Cascades, Renfe Ave rolling stock, high-speed routes and something containing Grand Central station NY.

    Who has some ideas?

So this guy walks into a hobby shop full of model railroad stuff and says, "Look at this place!" Then he adds, "I have a whole closet full of model trains."

The hobby shop owner owner looks back at the guy, and says dryly, "I have a store."

That's where we are right now.

Gv. Hi and welcome to the site. File Library has hundreds of items to choose from. Go nuts.

Can't do better for the USA than this site. See the "File Library" menu, above.
Only thing I would mention is that the file search here can miss what you are looking for. It's worth searching an entire section and just browsing.
Generally anything before 2003 is really not worth it unless you want that specific item. Things were crude back then.

For Amtrak Cascades, there are things in this library and also see:

For a route with Grand Central look up the Metro-North New Haven line on this site.

The TGV stuff is sort of a hunt. Some sites are dead now. Some of the content has been re-released on other sites.

Gee this thread is interesting to me, too. Although I don't have much in the way of European stuff right now, sometimes my interest takes random hops. I think a site that's a must is https://www.uktrainsim.com/mstsquickpicks.php I have a fair amount of English stuff (I do not count them as European) because I find some of the steam engine designs so bizarre, and the countyside is pretty.

What you should look at if you're unfamiliar with UK Railway operations is the CD Ordering link (left hand side of the Front Page). Many of the routes available here not only contain the route, but also a stock pack and activities which will familiarise you with the sort of traffic you'd find on UK Railways.

...Sadly 26% of our population, I'm not part of that, don't regard themselves as European either! ....but as for our steam locomotives being bizarre?!?! HOW VERY DARE YOU SIR!!!! Agreed they are not like many North American designs but then our rail traffic has always been different. We had no need of "Big Boy's" to haul mile long trains and we did have a lot of high speed passenger traffic. Mallard still holds the World Speed record for a steam train ....and unlike some Rail World Records this was on a real service train. What we did have is four major Railways serving different areas of the country and with different brilliant locomotive designers and very different sources of coal to power them. ....but how so bizarre
