    Well over a decade ago.

Cal pushed the limits on realism and in the MSTS days it was a push too far. Everybody crabbed the fps were too slow. The problem was largely that he had set the display controls on the terrain to display every poly whereas the default for MSTS was every other poly (enlarged). The later tended to pop in and out when you got close enough and Cal found that objectionable. But controlling that was the straw that broke the camels back, fps wise.

The criticism drove him right out of the hobby.

Unlike MSTS, Open Rails actually uses the GPU to do stuff and so the default for all routes is to display all polys. Faster PC's, more RAM, better GPU's and Cal's route runs pretty well today.

Oh.. very nice screenshots... a good decision to work in better trees.

    Hi Dave,

Are you saying there's a way to increase the mesh resolution above what we normally see ? I don't know if it's just the screenshot but some of those ripples in the mesh look higher than default...

    Regards,
    Scott
