Winter on Rogers Pass

A blizzard has struck British Columbia, but that won't keep the trains from running. Empty potash train 602 eases down the mountain between Stoney Creek and Rogers.


602 met three trains and fairly quick succession. First, westbound 113 at Redgrave.


Second, a rolling meet at Donald with a loaded coal train.


Third, a pause at Hill was required to let 101 roll west.


Conditions did not improve by the time 602 arrived to field. The hotel will be a welcome sight.

Wintertime naturally leads to a majority of trains running in darkness. This one is loaded potash train 603. Personally, the heaviest train I have ever navigated across any MSTS or ORTS route. Topping out at 19,000 tons!

Got her "in the wind" between KC Jct and Forde.


Tiptoeing down the ruthless 2.2% grade near Ross Peak.


Medium to stop at 91.7, taking the diverging aspect at Flat Creek.


6 hours after departure, Rogers Pass has been conquered!
