Default Rendering of a shape (shades/light)

    Hi,

I have a problem with the rendering of a shape (see screenshot from openRails in attachment ).

The first shape is an embankment from the site DBTRACK : NR_EmbBase1t20mstrt.s
The second shape is a copy of the first shape that I have created by
    -converting NR_EmbBase1t20mstrt.s with ShapeConverter.exe
-importing the generated 3ds file in Gmax
-generating the second shape with Gmax

As you can see in the screenshot the rendering of the 2 shapes is different. The second shape generates a shade.

The definition/configuration of the 2 shapes in TSRE5 is the same.
They both use the same texture.
I have try to change the definition of the material in the material tools of gmax. I have also try manual changes directly in the shape file, but nothing seems to work.

Has anayone any idea how I can configure the second shape so that the rendering is identical as the first one?

Thanks for your help. That did trick.

I had to put the normals in the same smoothing group and also weld the vertices.

I have been making shapes for some time now, but I didn't know this smoothing function. It will help me improve the rendering of some terrain shapes I did in the past. (one of these days I should take the time to go through all the functions available in Gmax...).
