Default Could someone look into this.

    Friends,

While checking the Virginian route that I am working on, a obscure error showed up
that I cannot find and which will make the route ORTS only because activities running
on ORTS seem to have no issue, nor does TSRE.

    But another issue appeared.

My test train is 20 or so of the Virginian "Battleship" gondolas and a Virginian caboose
which are in the library, have been for several years. Initially, my motive power was
two Virginian electrics, based on a PRR design, also in the library.

Okay, Pantograph up, brakes on train & engine released, reverse forward, open
throttle. Immediately current red-lines wheels on engines are turning, train does not
move. The only thing I could think of was, maybe the engine. So, substituted a
N&W "J" and not only does this happen, but the engine drivers disappear. So I
changed the activity in total to one that has 8 or so passenger cars, and the "J"
all of which have been around for several years and it works fine.

So my guess is that the brakes are not releasing on the gondolas or the caboose,
and since this is a small consist compared to what would be reasonable, once the
route is released, I would ask if someone familiar with rolling stock could look into
    it.

And yes, the activities work correctly in MSTS.

In OR, once the brakes are released, use the shortcut (SHIFT + Backslash Key) to fully release and charge the brake pipe. You can always check the HUD for brake line pressures.

Thanks, I'll try that & check back here. Right now, watching the streaming video of the Grand Ole Opry. Really strange to see 3 guys twanging away in a empty auditorium. Grew up with it in Nashville and a number of the opry players were friends of my folks.

    Chris,

No effect at all. (Shift+Backslash) gave a message line about initializing brakes. Waited several minutes
and found that the EOT indication was a fully charged brake line, and zero cylinder pressure, same as
head end. - As information, I worked as a engineer during strikes and so I have experience with brake
tests etc. Now as information, also, note my first message. Using a N&W passenger car set (which
got in the library around 2004, and the N&W "J" everything worked as I would expect which is why
I knew this would have to be a ORTS only route. So again, I am suspicious of the .wag files for those
VGN gondolas, or the caboose but their contents are beyond me.

Just to see what would happen, I created an activity of just the two electric locomotives.
This performed as expected, so my suspicion is that the problem lies in either the
VGN coal cars, or the VGN caboose.

Check the hand brakes? I don't have OR installed on anything accessible right now but the command used to be SHIFT ; (held simultaneously) to release all handbrakes. I don't believe SHIFT / does anything except charge the pipe.

Download vgn12fix.zip from the file library here. It replaces the wagon files that Have an extra bracket before the brake lines. The IC Flexi vans have the same problem with the extra bracket. Have a wonderful day all.

Thanks, once this route is released, those battle ship gondolas will be popular. Now if there are any masochists out
there they might want to tackle one of the original box cab electrics that VGN acquired around 1925 or so. They had
    side rods.

Okay, that corrects the issue with the gondolas but the real issue seems to be the caboose. I am using VGN40
which has both a .wag and a .eng file with the intention of using the .wag file in summer (no smoke at the
stove chimney) or the .eng file in the winter. Although the activity is in the summer, the only file that works
seems to be the .eng file. If I remove the .eng file, the caboose disappears. It was a modification of a Tim
    Muir caboose.

The problem is the VGN40 caboose. Brakes never release on it. I put the other caboose in the
consist that is in the library and the activity sets up and works as it is supposed to. VGN40
is rather cute, what with smoke at the chimney and a brakeman on the rear platform, so maybe
a fix can be found for it. However, I'll just stay with the caboose that works. There is also a
Southern X2913 caboose in library - created at my request several years ago. This was one
of 4 cars in my "fleet" when I was in the Research & Test Dept. many years ago, along with 1
locomotive which changed every month. For purposes of inspecting track or doing R&R tests
I had a nearly retired unit assigned each month, usually a GP-7. I guess X2913 is razor blades
by now. R-1 is in the Virginia Transportation Museum. R-2 is probably retired, and the rider
coach that was occasionally used was last seen on the SL&RG in Alamosa, CO but with the
demise of Iowa-Pacific it is probably razor blades by now too.
