    The built-in modeller is the feature most prominently demonstrated in the video, but the editor will also allow importing 3D-models made in external general-purpose programs like 3DSMax, Blender etc.

    First time i am being negative about a feature in DRS. But i just don't see the point of this unless you are a modeller or want to create fantasy rolling stock.

    Far more important features needed in DRS, in regards realistic operations, sorry.

    That, to me, is the whole point, Mike.
    The more people who get into modelling 'stock for DRS, the better for the sim. It allows others to become involved in the creative side of the product.

    Like you, I have no interest in the model-making or kit-bashing aspect of DRS but I hope that many are interested in it and we see their creations, especially those which are prototypical.

    Sorry Bruce, just don't get it. To me get the basics and the operational realism in place first.

    Then add the fluff. Perhaps other customers have requested this feature, but for me personally. It is not something that makes me jump up and down with excitement.

    The train editor is the last missing "big" editor to make one of the key aspects of the sim customisable and extensible. Whether the integrated modelling tool becomes popular or not remains to be seen. I have some long-term post-DRS plans where the modelling tool might play an important role, so it's not a complete waste of time even if it proves unsatisfactory. The tool is mainly intended for those who might want to tinker without spending too much time on learning a full general-purpose modelling suite. It should be possible, for instance, to use it for creating most of the 1st gen DMU classes with reasonable effort.

    I'm excited to see what gets made with this, the addition of the 03 and 37 have already brought more life to the routes. Even more varied stock to see blasting past on the fast lines or in sidings can only be a good thing.

    In full agreement with Mike on this one. DRS has the potential to be in the same league as Run8 and Zusi3 and the chance to be considered a serious train sim. Development should remain strictly in-house on this sim with an emphasis on more realistic operation and an ever increasing range of rolling stock to complement what has been released already, namely more green era or the transition to blue era.

    By all means if developer wants to make a train editor or software tools that's fine but why not make it only available to a proven 3rd party developer/partner who could collaborate on development and help to speed up releases of quality rolling stock or possibly routes based on a real world prototype using the current rolling stock and future releases. For me personally the route editor and timetable editor is more than adequate to keep long term interest in the sim going but they both still need to be developed further. Its been almost 20 months since version Version 1.30 of the Timetable editor was released and 18 months since the route editor was first previewed and then 5 months since it was released and the game itself is fast approaching 3 years in beta development.

    Want to see the sim advance and be successful but the developer needs to focus on what the payware train-sim market does not have and that is a serious train simulator dedicated to British railways only, because we have already have a realistic American train sim (Run8) and a German train sim (Zusi3). There is plenty of interesting British routes and a wide variety of interesting diesel locomotives and rail cars to keep a developer going for a life time and if ever a developer wanted inspiration from one person who has dedicated years of his time to developing British railway stock, then look no further than Steve Thomas and his amazing freeware for Open Bve and BVE4.
