Sounds promising. Bakerloo Line and scenario editor definitely got me sitting up in interest.

Looks like they're ditching TSW and starting afresh with a TSW 2!

Can't we get rid of the management and start afresh, we might get a proper train simulator then!!!!

And the first routes are a London Underground route for the LUL fanboys.

A German ICE route where you can drive from A-B at 500kmh, if you want that excitement.

The CSX Sandpatch route that we've already bloody bought.

Oh, and scenario and livery reskinning editors and tools will be included so everyone can jump on the Payware wagon and make money off DTG's back, so, they have even less money for future investment, absolutely ridiculous.

    Cheerz. Steve.

I'm not sure why I follow this forum except that eye candy in Oakville that almost got me in.

So scenario and liveries. Actually this worked well for MSTS had they decided not to ditch their second version. Trainz seems the only one older that seems to have done well with this model.

But if they really want the money so bad considering it's UE4, they would force it to be hosted by them. You have a few open slots for editing and personal use only (can't share with others). When you submit to their site they add whatever links to make it functional and will host. They collect a small one time hosting fee for freeware, or some kind of yearly subscription service that gives you the ability to submit freeware. If it's payware they can use their shopping cart and take a percentage of all sales.

That to me would be the ultimate cash cow.

    Thanks

Yes, but it's finally going to be available on consoles, which is a big deal for them. DTG have categorically stated they don't want consoles to be treated like second class citizens, which in reality means that the bar is lowered from what the sim could have been as PC-only to something that will run well on a console that was released seven years ago. This is part of the reason why the routes are so short, there's very few train models on each, and why there's so little AI traffic around. If they made the LIRR realistic, the thing would (pun not intended) chug along.

For me, it's because it's interesting to watch the (again, no pun intended) train wreck. As with Trainz, I was a Train Simulator/Railworks customer going back all the way, but the underwhelming product and overwhelming cost drove me away. It's fascinating watching all the errors and bugs and other problems not get dealt with, and people being intrigued, buying, and getting angry, and the cycle continuing for years and years.

A small part of me hopes that they'll somehow figure it out and we'll finally get our AAA-production values train simulator that TSW looks like in the screenshots and trailers. That Oakville is pretty much going to be written off, now, with all that potential wasted and all those GO stations never to see a passenger train, is criminal, though.

No editor, unless there's been a complete U-turn from this official forum thread (post #6 from this Saturday just gone):

It is significantly more complex than the TS20 editor because it first requires Unreal Engine which comes with a rather sizable amount of licensing bureaucracy that isn't easy to navigate. It also requires a higher level of understanding from users to be able to make headway which is not in itself a deal-breaker, but our goal is to make the TSW editor more user friendly than what has come before rather than less. Oh, and the final requirement is that console players must also be able to use it. It's important to us that those playing on PlayStation or Xbox aren't treated as second class citizens.

Those are the problems. They're not insignificant, but neither are they insurmountable. Right now I have no timeline to offer, not even vaguely, and my own recommendation is to put it out of your head until such a time as it's talked about in concrete terms as a thing that's happening. Not easy, of course. As a highly desirable, if not essential, feature it is conspicuous in its absence.

Actually looking at what they propose for the scenario editor, doesn't sound as if it's a full blown timetable editor at least not yet.

The other thing still noticeable by its absence is the continuing lack of support for steam traction in the game.*

    * Edit: Correction, reading the FAQs they are "working on it".
