Thread: ATSF tanker in Blender

    Default ATSF tanker in Blender

After watching a series of tutorials on the last day of November, I decided to start building my first Blender model, which is based on a Santa Fe TK-L tanker. It may be a bit too advanced for a beginner, but I think I've done incredible work at this point. Planned to be an ORTS-only car.

    Pretty exciting, Tyler!
Do you have plans to work from? Would you like me to see if I can locate some?

    Hi Christopher,

You'd be a wizard if you could locate the blueprints! I had received a folio sheet, which is also found on the historical society's website. I also used my photos of a surviving tank body and the measurements I made three years ago.

Thanks to the Santa Fe Railroad Historical Society

Edit: I see you already have what I found. I guess that isn't strictly blueprint. Try this. Not the exact same class but may be pretty close:

Kudos for giving it a try. Helping to inspire others has been my intention with my sharing of my own experiences, trials, and tribulations with learning Blender.

My question: Was this tank car actually made with a cylinder that has a flat bottom or was that just a wimpy drawing it? Tanks are easy to model because they start with a standard primitive... the cylinder.

The tank was created with a cylinder. Since the prototype had unconventional pear-shaped ends, I had to round about 5/6th of the ends, with the remainder to be occupied by the bolsters and draft gears.
