    Default ORTS - Why Steam is far more immersive than Diesel or Electric.

    Hi Folks,

    Just an FYI for those unfamiliar:

    With a tender - you can create two forward looking "Passenger Views" - on the tender - positioned to where the Engineer and Fireman would be looking out the cab - then use the normal "Headout Views" to look back over the rear of the train - this way all four views are available at a mere joystick keypress away - all four views have the camera isolated from the motion of the train replicating head movement. You can control the amount of relative motion by setting the vibration level. It's as if in real life - where your head isn't locked to the motion of the cab - GREATLY enhancing the immersion - IMHO.

    Video Example

    Wow that adds quite a bit of realism.

    Yes the rocking motion is what stands out for me.

    What steam exhaust settings are you using for your steam engines.

    BTW, the cab view looks great!

    Hi Folks,

    Thanks - I guess this is a big part of why I get bored with diesels pretty quick - it would be nice to have the same relative motion with them.

    Hi Rick,

    I use Marc's smoke which I've been very happy with - available here: http://www.3dtrains.com/downloads/misc.shtml

    Here's all the effects I configure which for ORTS includes cylinders that cycle front to back, injectors, generator, and the air compressor.

    ENG File
    Code:
    Comment ( ##### EFFECTS ##### )
    	Effects (
    		SteamSpecialEffects (
    			StackFX ( 	0 5.1 3.8
    						0 1 0

    			)

    	)
    Here's an example on how you setup the passenger view on any steam locomotive with a tender (cycle port to starboard with the [5] and [Shift 5] key strokes):

    WAG File
    Code:
    	Inside (
    		PassengerCabinFile ( 280tender.s )
    		PassengerCabinHeadPos ( 1.85 3.6 6.5 )
    		RotationLimit ( 30 90 0 )
    		StartDirection ( 0 12 0 )
    		Sound ( "Mik-h-pas.sms" )
    	)
    Regards,
    Scott
