RF&P beta testing

The expanded and improved Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac route is ready for beta testing.

To minimize the downloads needed to operate the route, I used (horrors!) default MSTS freight cars for the CSX manifest freights and default Metrocarriage cars for the Amfleet.

The zip file has a list of required trains and also the instructions for installation and for beta testing (plus the complete route). I uploaded the file to Dropbox, which will send a download link to your email address. So if you're interested, please send me an email or PM with your email address, and I'll tell Dropbox to share the file with you.

There are almost 20 hours of activities included in the route, so I guess a few weeks or a month might be needed to beta test it, assuming you have other things to do. :-)

Wouldn't worry about it too much, as the Potomac River flooding over the GW parkway is "normal" (when the Potomac does flood, ha ha). We do hear the traffic reports on WTOP when it does.

Seriously, I wonder how it can be mitigated in Open Rails and still maintain proper elevation in MSTS.

Hey Steve. This is probably unrelated to beta testing and I apologize but would you be able to post a video of all the updates?

Some tiles had a water height of 4m on one edge and 0 on the other. OR apparently rendered them as 4m throughout. I changed the water level height to 0 on all four corners, and the flood abated. Low tide on the Potomac now, but better than swimming cars.

Also, some bridges that had enough clearance in MSTS were too low in OR. Or maybe the trains are bigger.

A video of all the updates? Sorry, no, there are about 50 miles of new route, and new Metro and VRE stations and other structures in the original half. Maybe when the new route is fixed and uploaded somebody can make a movie …

Steve is right. I remember bicycling there in the eighties and seeing the water block the freeway.
