Dual-Mode Locomotives

Hello again, this time a question that I believe has been asked but nothing seemed to come of it.
It concerns the Dual-Mode P32's and ALP-45DP, operating on Diesel-O/H Wire-Third Rail. Someone was working/thinking about a way to switch power while on the "run" with a suitable OR Locomotive.
Has anyone worked how this may be accomplished without resetting a complete activity or switching locomotives? When entering into GCT on the Metro North Lines, use of the Diesel is frowned upon, let alone the smoke coming through the solid roof.
