never seen these before

While on the coastline yesterday about 30 minutes behind the CoastStarlight was this UP train filled with riprap. The cars were almost like articulated with trucks between them but no gaps between the cars. One of the first gondolas had a tracked back hoe type machine with a bucket. Reporting marks were GREX. By the time the wife grabbed her phone from the car we only got off this one shot.

I've seen these up here with ballast trains coming out of the quarries in St. Cloud, along with a few other oddball styles. Never seen one in action, though

Herzog's got a similar one, referred to as an MPM or multipurpose machine. I've seen one of these on the NS Chicago Line a few times in the past, but never seen one in action.
