"work" continues and I have created all the required CTC and Road Crossing
bungalows. All have the correct name etc. I am adding all non-linked details
so the #20 turnouts have US&S switch motors and all the #20 turnouts and
crossovers will also get heaters as SR(NS) requires north of the TN/GA line.
Manual turnouts off the main or controlled sidings will also have non-operating
electric locks. Dudley Evans had chosen a number of default structures, most
of which I will use, but I will also add a number of better items from the library
    too.

I look to issue this one in the fall.

Colleagues, please give me some thought. My dentist discovered two red spots
on my soft palette and so I am gargling salt water until I see her again June 3.
If not improved a biopsy will likely be required. Never used tobacco products
or drank, but being over 40 (by 42 years) and being a guy are two risk factors.

Hoping and praying that both spots will be gone by the next appointment. Sometimes these things can be nothing more than an encounter with food that may have been to hot and left a burn spot where it touched the palette.

    Keep us posted.

Clinton, MD. Oh my, I think it is closed now, but I learned to fly at Hyde field back in
1970-1971. Got my license, single engine land, in August 1971. My late wife had a mortal
fear of light planes, thanks to an uncle that owned one, was a A&P Mechanic with Eastern,
and managed a small airport in Georgia, so it was either her or flying. I gave up flying after
    only 800 hours, mostly in Cessna-172 and Mooney M20G & F types.

Jerry, Hyde Field is still barely open. It took a big hit after the events of 9-11 shut it down for a while, opening back up, but the air traffic never returned like it did, much moving down to the Rose Valley airport a few miles away. The only thing that keeps it open now is Maryland State keeps some of their emergency helicopters and equipment there. There's only a hand full of planes that still fly in and out. We keep hearing it's going to be turned into town homes and a subdivision, but it hasn't happened yet.

Rose Valley never made much sense to me. The approaches were difficult from either direction and it
also conflicted with one of the Hyde Field runways that appears to have been removed. That shorter
runway was a difficult one too. I remember when a guy tried to take off with a full load in a Cessna
Cardinal I believe it was called. Wound up mowing down the tops of several trees, and fortunately
the last stop was not severe. There were injuries but none very bad. The airplane was a total loss
though. Then there was the hi-tension power line east of the field. We all knew about but one day
an executive airplane from New Jersey was doing an approved instrument approach and hit it. All
on board died in that one.

Thanks for all of your prayers guys. The issue in my mouth turned out to be nothing of significance. Most likely
it was burn marks from hot chicken noodle soup, Bob Evans type, which I like too much. My wife does have
an issue though. In an eye exam two weeks ago, plaque was seen. This usually is coming from the Carotid
arteries so she is waiting for an appointment with her cardiologist and this could mean different meds. or a stint, but
if not corrected it can be a precursor to a stroke. Hopefully it won't knock us out of our annual trek to the
    promised land of Narrow Gauge.

Then, while progressing on the 3rd district of the CNO&TP I got kinda bored with detailing and so I have laid
some track north from Oakdale on the 2nd district and have got to Pine Knot, KY in fits & starts. I've also
    digitized the 1st district.

Then it occurred to me that when these 3 segments (as it was in the 1960s & until about 2000, now it is two
subdivisions) are done, the activity creators will go berserk and I will outline an possible activity to get them
started. Consider this, you have two very hot southbounds, #219 which left Cincinnati around 6am with 75
or more trailer/flats (or later containers) and has to be in Atlanta by midnight, meaning Citico Wye at
Chattanooga by 6pm OR SOONER. Departing about 8am, you have the "Spark Plug" a auto parts train with
90 or so 86' hicube cars that must be in Atlanta by 4am to then be immediately distributed to the auto
assembly plants. Then there are at least a dozen northbound "Per Diem" trains that if not in Cincinnati by
midnight your job is toast. And then the fly in the ointment. Today is the day the geometry train, i.e. the
R-1 car and it's assigned GP-9 will leave Chattanooga and test NB to Danville, KY, i.e. the 2nd & 3rd
districts. It does not exceed 50 mph, usually running about 40mph to accurate assess gage, alignment,
surface, and super elevation. You can delay it, if necessary and it can be tucked away in some local
industry siding if necessary, but it CANNOT DELAY A PER DIEM train.

How do I know this? From 3/67 to 8/78 I was manager of this geometry operation and I was required
to be on the car when this very important bridge line was testes -EVERY 30 DAYS.

Love the reality that you inject from experience...

Is this district the same Tunnel 24 @ Nemo?

My brother in law's property sits almost on top of the new bore, and we've taken ATVs thru the old bore... definitely beautiful scenery in person.

Yes, this is the Tunnel 24 at Nemo. Actually, Tunnel 24 is included in the 3rd district route as well as the 2nd
district. I do not like to end a route physically right at the location limit (Oakdale) so the 2nd district will start
at Emory Gap northbound and the 3rd district starts a mile or so north of CW Tower southbound. In this way,
these "hang overs" can act like the old model railroad concept of a "fiddle" yard, place to start or end a activity.
In those old days, Oakdale was a busy place, but it always seemed odd to me about the mileage limits.
    1st district - about 116 miles, 2nd district - about 140 miles, 3rd district - 80 miles. Around 2000 a new crew
change point, with small yard, was put in between Burnside & Tateville, KY, approx. the middle, so now you
have 2 subdivisions of about 168 miles each. Result is that Danville has dried up, as well as Oakdale. I
believe the crew change for trains bound for Louisville is also at the new location as Danville to Louisville is
close to the same distance as Danville to Cincinnati.

In reference to "per diem" trains I should have said that they must be in Cincinnati in time to be OFF THE
PROPERTY by midnight which meant a 10pm arrival in Cincinnati was a more realistic cut off.

My 2nd district route will include 1 line change of 1955 or so, 3 from 1961-63, and a number of branches
or connecting shortlines. I will also indicate the locations of several long gone tunnels. There were once 27
in all with one being on the 1st district, and 3 (now 2) on the 3rd district. Now that coal is bad, there is not
much on-line industry. The CNO&TP is a bridge line, like a big fast conveyor belt from Cincinnati to Chattanooga.

To further mix things up, there was a director's special, for the Cincinnati Southern directors, who lease the line
to NS, once a year in the fall. This ran at maximum track speed but still could not delay per diem trains. Usually
it left Cincinnati at 8am, arriving in Chattanooga around 5pm.
