Question Shape file not in unicode

I am not sure what to look for to correct the problem of one shape file. I did try with Conbuilder to click " SF (Shape Fixer - compresses or fixes shapes) " to correct the shape file but show the error. Look below:

    Conbuilder

    Error- S file not unicode

1009: FileCopy: FROM file open failed

    On line 43 of E:\my-utils\ffedit\fixship.wbt

    filcecopy ["MLTT5171.s", "MLTT5171.org, @true]

    Winbatch 32 2012A
    WIL Version: 6.12ala

Now you see the error shape file above and will the other program, SFM25 work to correct this or not?

If you know what is the alternative to correct this problem of shape file? Let me know about this.

    Thank you,

    John

    Hi John,
I have the original, compressed, version of MLTT5171.s. Running it through Shape File Manager to uncompress it results in a legitimate Unicode file.

Is your file uncompressed? To find out, try opening it with NotePad; if you see 'proper' text, it is uncompressed. If this is so, check the "Encoding" box at the bottom of the screen. If it is NOT shown as UTF-16 LE use "Save As" and set the encoding to UTF-16 LE. (Backup your original file first!!).

If it is compressed, use SFM to uncompress it, or you can use my FFEDIT_Sub, which forces you to create a new file, making a backup unnecessary

Did you do any other processing of the file before you tried running it through ConBuilder? If so, what?

    Cheers,
    Ged

    Charles,

Thank you for your reply and am afraid that Joe will be more likely not to answer this problem because I see that he have not be on his site, Conbuilder forum. But I will go ahead to post this to Conbuilder forum and see what happen next with Joe to answer to my reply.

You can also fix files not in Unicode using Routeriter, MSTS file utilities tab.

    1. Open Routeriter (I am using version 7.6.26)
    2. Select the "MSTS File Utils" tab.
    3. In the top rightmost pane navigate to the location of your shape file.
    4. In the pane to the left of the one where you selected the path, select the shape file to be converted to Unicode
    5. Select the "ASCII to Unicode" button. The file should now be converted,
