    Default Windows 11 is coming

    Hi all,

Windows 11 will be available early next month as a free downloadable upgrade. I am wondering if it will have any adverse effects on Open Rails. I've already downloaded the new wave browser.

I am thoroughly disgusted with windows 10. Every update seems to brake another feature in the OS.

Like everything else, someone will always be first.

Good luck, I have only been on w10 for 6 months as my w7 machine got to 11 years old.
    Cheers

    Derek,

I hear what you are saying. I had a windows 7 machine for many years but it died a slow death and eventually it was unusable. After switching to win 10 it only took six to eight months before I realized I had taken a step down. Almost every time there is a system update another feature of win 10 breaks. If you try to use multiple external drives you have to play games with the OS to get them to work properly. Wait till you start getting "device not migrated" errors. But don't worry. You can fix these errors with the System File Checker. The problem is that the SFC has been broken since two updates ago (confirmed by Micro$oft). This is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm not a software type but I am getting the feeling that win 10 is junk.

    Pardon my rant.

As with w7, I have not had a problem with w10.
I always apply updates when they are available.

I am a retired systems server tech after 38 years working on all types of computers.

For us ordinary souls who do not have the knowledge,WIN10 is JUNK,Introduced only to make M$soft more money.I have a great WIN7 machine with a SSD which does the one job I want it to do i.e run MSTS,and it does it very well with great frame rates. The SSDwas installed and cloned from the original HD which still sits inside the case. Now 8 years old.

To me, Windows 10 is like Windows XP, but better. Windows Vista, 7, 8, all useless to me and broke anything gaming related.

Windows 11 though? Curious how this will be for upgraded features.

I agree a 101%. Win10 is GARBAGE, breaking features after every update. I remember my first BSOD just 2 months after upgrading to Win10...
I was with Win7 for 10 years and I NEVER GOT A BSOD FOR THE LIFE OF ME...
Today I'm almost 2 years with Win10 and in total I've got 5-6 BSODs (thanks to the horrendous automatic updates that won't even let the user to choose which ones they want to install). Really missing the good old Control Panel UI.

    A win7 serial number will activate win10.

If you are not running win10, how can you comment?

2 ways you can yet that.

    1. install Classic Shell,
    2. on win10 do a search for control panel and it will come up, all the old commands are still there.

Like many, I was dubious about running Win 10 after hearing various 'stories'! I have now been running it for at least 5 years and have NEVER had a 'blue screen' (famous last words!!). OK, it took a bit of getting used to after many years of using Win 7 and its update procedure is a bit of a pain. When I set it up, I dual-booted with Win 7, just in case I needed to return to it, but have only used that for checking my utilities work under it and a very few odd times for other reasons.

For those who say MSTS doesn't run under Win10 - that's rubbish! Following the well-publicised procedures for installing it, I can say that it runs as well, if not better, than it did under Win 7, and, of course, there are absolutely no problems with Open Rails!!

As for Win 11 - we'll just have to wait and see

    Cheers,
    Ged
