Silent Hunter 1 and 4

I know this is nothing to do with trainsims,nut does anyone out there have (and still plays) Silent Hunter 1 ? I know it is old,but it has a certain something !
I am trying to run it via doshox on my XP machine but cannot find the SH.ini folder to amend it to run without the CD.

I also have SH4 on my WIN7 machine but find it so complicated;can anyone tell me how to run that as the instructions in the manual and ingame are useless.

I used to play SHIII a lot, so I can't really help you with that. However, you should definitely ask over at the Subsim forums. They have a large, very friendly community where all SH games are still highly valued and often played.

Interesting. Never heard about these games. I'm 'trying to buy' SH4 right now to see what it's like.

Regarding your question about SH1. According to the thread below (first post), you should be looking for the file shpath.ini which is located in the installation folder of the game.

I have SHIV installed and am currently active in a Pacific campaign, using, among other things, the Real Fleet Boat mod v2.0.

However, you really should take this to the Subsim Radio Room Forums. Everything you want to know is there and the community is very active. What you're asking for is way beyond the scope, not to mention irrelevent, for the trainsim forum.

I really enjoyed SHIII back in the day, but my understanding is none of the titles run on Win 10 without a lot of tweaking and/or mods.

I prefer defend reloaded over dosBox! I started using defend on my WinXP computer! Now all my DOS games on the Windows 7 machine use Defend Reloaded. There were two of Silent Hunter released! I'm running SHCE Silent Hunter Commanders Edition, that's has all the patrol areas, and the scenario editor.

The Bud folder has a 16 megabyte file 10.smk for copy protection.
