As far as I'm aware, Mike, they still use the Auran "Jet" Engine - or a derivative of it - to drive the product.
Just about everyone else in 2022 is using either Unity or Unreal to power their games, not something that is essentially two decades old.

As for subscriptions for games software....that goes against the grain as far as I'm concerned, irrespective of how inexpensive it may appear.

I know we only ever licence games, but with a subscription the day you cancel then it all gets taken away (unless I read somewhere that after so long you are allowed to keep it). One reason why when we changed our car a few years ago, I refused to get drawn into a leasing agreement. Bought the car and will keep it going until it runs into the ground, or I can't drive anymore.

Not sure it is still the Jet game engine Bruce.

No that is fair enough, if neither of you boys want to subscribe. That is your choices and not my business to say otherwise.

I know my own mind and have always done my own thing. But i definitely do not expect others to agree with me.

    SNAP!
I did exactly the same thing, Vern, back 2012 when I bought my Honda Jazz.
Was pushed to lease it but declined on the basis that It'd probably be the last new car I ever bought. Here I am ten years later and the thing has only done 76,000 km!

We got a Kia Sportage and those things are built like tanks. Currently 5 years old and done 28k miles so I want at least another 7 years before thinking of trading it in.

Anyway as regards Trainz, when I can pick up TRS22 standalone for £25 either at Steam or direct from N3V then I'll undoubtedly buy it.

    There you go Bruce...................

E2 is the N3V Games-internal name of the game engine used for Trainz from TANE (~2014) onwards. It replaces the Auran Jet engine used in previous editions of the Trainz product family, which had a history starting in roughly the year 2000.

E2 is an entirely new rendering engine designed solely for the Trainz simulation requirements and for modern and future hardware capabilities. Whereas Jet was intended as a general-purpose game engine first, and to support Trainz secondly, E2 is designed primarily for Trainz and lacks many of the Jet features that were intended for purposes other than Trainz. It is specifically a renderer, and does not offer resource management, file system abstractions, sound or user interface, etc.
