Default A new train game for SurvivorSean.

This will probably be right up your alley, Sean.

Where the hell did that come out of. I was actually in a bit of a depressed game state of mind (not real life) with no updates for Run8V2 and nothing else on the horizon. 2021 has actually been quite active for all those programmers in quarantine.

This has potential and has some definte pros. But I do enjoy the beauty and sim quality of Railroads Online and will stick with that for now.

It's nice to know there are plenty of options though. As for the rest of the main stays I'm done with them. Trainz (no real issue with me here), Run8 (Vapourware), MSTS and OR (built on an old foundation), TSW (You'll get more value out of train videos for the pretty factor), Railworks etc. (Don't care about sessioned or scored missions).

Hell if I lose my job soon with the latest round of lockdowns and restrictions I might have more time to program one as I'll need to do something to make money.

    Thanks for the update.

No idea, Mike. I never even had a look at the video.

Seems to be the latest trend, Bruce. Fictional railways\roads in limited size worlds.

    Merry Christmas buddy.

Though this particular title seems to be geared at people that just want to smash or play with trains, it does have some potential (whether meant in jest or not). I can't speak for it any further than that video.

As far as fictional or condensed maps I don't have an issue with that. For the record Railroads Online is just their first map with bigger ones in the pipe when they're able to fully get everything balanced and optimized.

Lets take something I believe you and I both like such as American Truck Simulator. That is certainly a condensed scale map though based on reality. It works pretty damm good of course there are others including myself who looked for 1:1 mod maps as well. As been pointed out not everyone has hours to spend at a computer.

If I'm in a situaiton where I'm part of a realistic traffic pattern (1880's as industry and rails first start to connect) than that is pretty cool. What many developers go for is the popular routes that have been done on multiple platforms. Either the dispatch systems can't handle that amount of traffic, or the amount of AI or MP availablity can't keep up with what is real. If there was more focus on routes that are interesting but not as busy or popular you would get tons of satisfaction from the cab or a yard and not be catered to as if you were railfanning the busiest lines in the world.

Recently 3rd party apps for RRO has started moving industires. I was walking through the woods between industries and came on an area that would be perfect for such an industry. The thing is I've already built enough operation up that I don't want to give it up any time soon. Even 1 or 2 people over the holidays has kept me interacting with others and it's been lots of fun as always. Even on 16 square kilometers for their first map.

    Thanks

Good post Sean and yes ETS2 & ATS are in 1:19th scale. So i tend to look for 1:1 map mods. Didn't realise there were more maps to come for RO, but will they all merge together buddy. To make one decent sized play area, do you know ?

Or is it your opinion they will all be separate entities ?

All about fun Sean, so i am pleased you enjoy the game.

I'm not sue to be honest. I suspect it's a new map entirely. I know they want to eventually do passenger operations, and some other products including agriculture. I honestly think that is still a ways off since there is only 1 programmer. There is a strong team that focuses on models, physics, etc. to assist however so we will see how things go.

    Thanks
