Default AMD Ryzen or Intel i5??

In the market for a new laptop and curious about processors.

I've got a choice between the following:

    1) i5-10500H with NVidia GTX1650
    2) AMD Ryzen 5 5600H with nVidia RTX3050

I was leaning towards the Intel, but the AMD setup seems to have far better performance ratings, and there's only a $40 difference in price.

Anyone have experience with either one?

    Hi Eric,

I have a 5600x in a desktop, and am very happy.
I would go for the performance.
    Cheers

Having owned a gaming laptop for the last eight years, all I can say is there are differences. What I'm looking at has a separate GPU.

Long long ago myself & the Mrs. purchased a top of the line laptop, all the bells & whistle, . I too went for the dedicated GPU as one of the requirements, by the time we got done, price was hovering $5k for the time. not even 6-month, a yrs time before it had it's issues, hell it even went back to mfg, they kept it so many yrs, lost trk. By the time it did return Candice had passed. I older. Upon i's return from MS, didn't even so much as startup, XP was gone with next version of windows already out in full swing. Never again, could be gold plated, of no interest, lol. I took it upon myself to educate myself just enough to build my own PC, haven't looked back. Great luck with AMD across the board, thus, I'm somewhat bias. Also, PC so much more powerful, &, easier to upgrade parts wise. I understand in today's world, esp. a working man / woman may have a greater need for a laptop. Me, I don't need worry about such things, just the RLSS from time to time... lol.

OK, I didn't go with the Ryzen. I went with a Dell G15 with the i7 and RTX3050 GPU.

Frame rates with ORTS are running about double what I was getting with my Alienware 14, which was already somewhat impressive.

I would have gone with the Ryzen but.... (don't laugh) the colors it came in were just not for me. They had an olive drab camo version and a grey with green speckles which was really almost white and looked like it would just not wear well over time. The Intel version came in a traditional dark grey that matches my old Alienware... so.... there you have it.

Unfortunately, the Alienware was 9 years old, and recently lost a fan and was shutting down randomly. I'm sure I could have chased down a replacement fan and installed it, but that's a lot of years on a laptop that already was losing pixels on the display, had no USB-C ports, a battery life of about 40 minutes tops, and a broken 3.5mm audio jack.... Fixing it up will make a good project some day, but I need something a little more reliable right now.

We need a Price?, Payment plans?. Will the young-uns' be able to eat tonight?.
Hopefully will indeed last as long as your O'l Alienware, recouping costs.

My last PC build the cooling fan went roughly 2yrs ago.
I went back found my slip for an upgraded fan of the time out of curiosity.
$1.75 + 3cent tax. so far only repair.
I used to enjoy colored lights, various parts in colors etc, that last build went with pretty much everything industrial black. Even the old case had dials, bight gauges etc, got sickening. Swopped for as large a case as I could find at the time this last build. I went with a full aluminum tower++. lol from floor to top of case 41". Surely lots of room for expansion, has 4-GPUs & they look so small inside lol.

Got to admit doubt I'd be able to carry the thing around all day. I can envision little O'l SMRY sitting at the cafe with my case on the lap.

Admittedly, I spent a little more than planned but it was under $1K. If it lasts half as long as my last one, I'm still coming out ahead. And the young-un's can fend for themselves now. They like their fancy coffees, and this is a lot less than that over the course of a year.

I work in IT for a living, and with tools of the trade, sometimes it's worth skipping the the $1 disposable tool bin at Home Depot and spending up to get something from Craftsmen or Milwaukee.

1K a bargain for sure. Just had me curious, for haven't paid much attn to latest electronics pricing for a number of yrs now.
I'm quite sure should I need a major component replacement, be forced to pay someone, as, don't believe I'd be able to see smaller parts. Hopefully I'll push the O'l daisies up before the PC needs upgrades, dies, saving all around. lol.

Not too sure I've been to a Home Depo, did make a purchase thru them online LG Washer & Dryer. Never again, as 1 HD wouldn't set the 2 machines where I & Mrs. wanted them. 2 the dryer didn't operate more than 5mins before shutting down on its own. The extended warranty was of no use. Eventually after several years procrastinating I disassembled the dryer only to discover a hose kinked off with a pair of vise-grips & the wiring was so bad touching the machine you'd get zapped forced me to rewire both the ctrl panel & hardwiring inside. Also, looked to be used units from the get-go, & haven been touched-up. Never again. Won't hurt Depot by any means. Craftsmen isn't what they used to be either. I've stuck with Snap-On via the truck when he's in the area, so far so good to the day.
