Default Think my Intel Processor crapped out

Yesterday, my computer shut down and when I restarted it, there is no VGA display. The MSI motherboard's CPU fail/not detected led light is on.

I have some very tough choices. The PC was purchased through AVADirect. It's beyond their warranty, but a lot of parts are under manufacturer warranty.

    1. I "THINK" I could take off the CPU fan and access the processor to do a manufacturer return.
    2. Chance upon a local repair shop that will remove the processor and warranty the part. So I just pay for repair.
    3. Send the sucker back to AVADirect and pay for them to do the repair.

I like option 2 because I'm not 100% on the problem and I'm scared of the CPU. I have done pretty much everything else except install and remove a processor. The issue is I don't know if I can find a shop that will work with the warranties. In my mind, it shouldn't be an issue for a repair shop to put in a warranty request I authorize. But I live in rural Louisiana and I've dealt with this issue.

Of course, a 4th option is confirm its just a CPU issue. If it is, buy a faster processor. I jumped on the Intel i7 10700 2.9Mhz because it was new and available. I haven't had a computer with that Mhz in ages. I know 8 core, but still something faster is appealing.

In any event. I need my PC back. I want to run Run8 V3. I emailed Highball in the hope they'll authorize my old i7 4790K. It seemed to run with my 1080Ti. Any advice would be great. I'm super bummed out at the moment.

Processors are a fairly simple swap if you have easy access to the socket. Just watch out for the pins - they're easy to mash if you're not careful. Don't forget thermal paste for the heatsink.

I've never lost a CPU. Fans, power supplies, and more hard drives than I can count... but never a chip.

I have worked in IT for 40 years and I have only ever seen one dead CPU.
    Much more likely a motherboard.

I guess taking it in is my only option. I’ve never lost a CPU myself. If it’s the motherboard, I might just opt for buy another than the hassle of a return. My motherboard is dead, I hope everything else is okay.

    Thanks for some advice

    Just an update:

I'm up and running again. I took PC to local repair shop. The tech said he had to reseat the CPU and flash the bios. He couldn't say what caused the issue. So I'm hoping it was just a hiccup.

In any event, I appreciate eric and derekmorton. You're input helped calm my nerves.
