    Default New UP paint scheme

It looks like UP has modified its paint scheme. The long hood will once again have “Union Pacific” on it. The flag has been moved in front of the cab numbers and the UP shield replaces the wings on the nose

Everything old is new again....... First CSX dumps the boxcar logo, now this

I don't see the flag lasting very long, what with the giant sized nose shield.

UP 7007 was also spotted at Wabtec FTW with the spelled out lettering and no flag.

I'm glad to see a more conspicuous name return (i.e. no longer the 'Building America RR')

It would be sweet if the silver trucks could make a comeback

I was just about to post those shots from TrainOrders. I think it looks awful. Very thrown-together. My vote is to keep the wings on the nose and plain lettering on the long-hood. Can only hope that UP comes to their senses...

I don't like the location of the flag. It looked much better where it was. Yes, silver truck would be welcome.

The large shield reminds me of Iowa Interstate with placement. It doesn't look bad. Flag could be moved but BN had a few flags up front too.

It looks okay to me, but they should have kept the wings. It's just not the same. Also, it reminds me of the UP scheme they use on the SD40-2's and GP units.

I think the flag will eventually be dropped, but for PR reasons needs to be minimized in stages. Going from big to small and then small to gone.

The big flag really only came on new units, as in the builders had to deal with the cost and the placement issues. I don't think UP was too keen on the big flags when their shops were paying the tab for repaints and installation of big flags. Plus when their own shops did do the big flags, there were inconsistencies and the whole look of the fleet was not very positive, and that was before you even factored in all the taggers.

Now that the SD70M fleet is trickling in for lease returns given they have desktop control stands and lack DPU for PSR operations, a good chunk of the tattered big flags roaming around out there now will simply become the lessor's problem. And what few big flag repaints were done to the AC4400s up to now were again done on the (re)builder's dime. Altho looking at the photo of 7097, it is strange the only place where you see the Union Pacific name is in the nose shield.

Just another lesson in getting other businesses to pay for and execute your big displays of patriotism.

I've read the news today. I also think that the big flag should be removed and put on the side of the cab. However, I do think it should be smaller. It looks a bit weird like this. As for the shield and the wings, they should have retained the wings.
