ditch lights wrong place

some of the GP38-2 locos have the ditch lights way to far back,BNSF 2006 the stock GP38-2 among others .how do you move them to the proper pacement ?Should I look at others or just shine it on?These are mostly old stock .

Are you saying the glow of the light is in the wrong place or the light fixture is in the wrong place?

Might help also if you would specify which GP38-2(s) you are referring to.

Then it is the ENG file that needs editing. If it were the fixture, then you would need to edit the shape.

First thing to do is see if the creator issued a fix. Easy way is to search library with creator's name.

If not already fixed then you need to edit the Position statement for the ditch light. Again X,Y,Z coordinates.

Hi John,
I have downloaded and installed both versions of the GP38-2 2006/2240 (gp38nl2p.zip & gp38h312.zip). Both have identical .eng files and, to me, as a 'foreigner' (!!), the lower lights on the short-nose end display correctly on the second press of <H>. The upper lights on the long-nose end DO need adjusting slightly to stop flickering at certain angles.

There are some slight differences between the lights of 2006 and 2240, in particular, 2006 doesn't have any rear numberboard lights.

Please correct me if I've got something wrong or am looking at the 'wrong' lights!!

EDIT : As you posted in the MSTS Forum, I only checked that sim. I have since found out that the long-nose end lights do not display in Open Rails - are these the lights you're referring to?

Hi John,
If your problem is with the upper lights on the long-nose end of 2206/2240, the reason is that those lights have a "Coupling ( 1 )" condition. That has never worked in MSTS, but looks as if it does in Open Rails!

The solution is to open the .eng file and scroll down it to the 'Lights' section. Towards the end of the section, you'll see subsections labelled "Right Rear Light" and "Left Rear Light". In each, replace the '1' in the 'Coupling' statement with '0' (zero), then save the file/s.

As far as I can see, all the other lights display correctly in both MSTS and OR, except for the rear numberboard lights of 2006 which aren't coded.

If this is not your problem, please come back with more details and, hopefully, a screenshot!

Hummm. Downloaded 2006. Created consist. Opened ORTS (Currently have video card problem. Video memory limited. But can start OR and switch view but cannot run loco. ) Turned headlights to Bright (Ditch light will only glow when headlights bright.) Position of glow seems to be spot on perfect.

You can adjust the position in the Position statements in the sections below, BUT I see no reason to do that.
