I tend to focus on what I like. The only time I stray is when something isn't working out, or meets my needs. Run8 has been a main stay for over 10 years on my computer(s). Over the past few years I've opened up a bit more trying to find whatever I'm missing. I know for sure in 2023 I'm trying out a new sim but I'll keep Run8 close regardless. Other sims I haven't opened in months going on years. For now I'm pretty comfortable trying a fresh new idea and see what happens.

    Thanks

It's quite gratifying though must admit after making a mess of it the first time, I figured out how you allocate an AI driver to do it.

Also you need to think about how much traffic is on the train when allocating the shorter tracks in the bowl or you end up overflowing.

You also have to try and let the "hump" finish before saving and coming off so all the cars are touching and at a stand, otherwise they reload stationary where they were when you exited.

I just found that out thank you Vern. Continued a save, not sure if it should be world, train or the other one. I loaded my world save. When i re-activated the Hump controller. The cars started moving through the stationay ones and out the other end. LOL

So deleted that consist, but all the other consists in receiving area, did not have loco's. So i used the TM to place a double SD40-2 setup just up from one of the consists. But it will not let me control them, says they are Free something or other and have no details attached to them. They are not AI or driver controllable.

A successful hump was had, by one and all. Can the loco's be re-used to do some more car sorting ?

Yes once you finish humping, just take over the locos and park them up somewhere handy, remove the "hump" designation in the description box if necessary.

    Yes Mike to some degree.
1- remove or modify the tag "hump" from your AI's HdEnd Unit. Replace the Text/Symbol with anything you'd like, can also just leave it blank for a time.
For simplicity We'll envision you'd like them to start the process once again. Planning to Shove another string down the shoot.

2- the trk from which they shoved towards the crest, most likely completely clear at this point, lets continue to use that piece of trk for the moment. Once you've given the AI-Team another Tag or blank, they'll go thru their eng procedures before moving towards that open trk. While they're doing that, travel to the other end of that open track open the switch, or, you can leave it closed (against them) til they arrive. At that switch. think about how much room they're going to need to get themselves thru it & plan on making a reverse move towards the next trk with the string you'd like down the shoot. Once they clear that last switch, stop them. It's here where you'll need to re-click the LeadUnit. The AI panel will pop into view, choose "Relinquish When Stopped". You'll now need to take control, make your reverse move to your chosen track / string. Once you've got yourself attached to your chosen string, click the eng add new tag/text Hump, hump, HUMP, caps / no caps, anyone of the 3-styles, just as long as says hump, with the popup window still open click "AI ReCrew. While they're getting themselves ready to make their reverse move towards the hump/crest once again, travel to the end of train work your switches to set a clear path to the hump/crest.. With their path set, skip over to the crest, reactivate via Ctrl+F6 click "Disabled" in Red, will turn Green "Activated". AI will now be in the humping business once again.

Not to worry, it will indeed become second nature with the steps, & you'll learn, even comprise your own method / speedy steps for "My Way Certainly Is Not The Only Way, Nor, The Highway"

AI Switching duties pretty much the same process once your feeling comfy. TS will certainly be your ultimate friend along the schooling process. "Now children, Sit down & Shut Up".

Default Run8 / RTSX Home Schooling Series

Thinking out loud. I propose Sean / RTSX fire up a Mini YT-Series, just for the purpose of Run8 Home Schooling if you will.
Perhaps outside Sean's normal YT RTSX Series.
Somewhat simplified / baby steps, the process, secrets of Run8's use.
I'm no way pointing a finger at Mike, just fresh on the O'l noggin, but, feel anyone wishing to follow along with home-schooling-series. perhaps seeing the steps in action, being performed, put into use, be much clearer, easier to follow-along, understand, rather than lots of text.
Perhaps here at TS a Thread for questions / answers to go alongside those video series, which could be addressed via vids along the way. Sean you'd make a fine Home-Brewed Vid-Teacher just for our Run8 / TS Family. Having a library of Schooling Vids be another great tool, for which anyone can reference / fall back onto from time to time as well.

I barely have time to do what I'd like to do these days unfortunately.

I've gone through it several times on my channel. It will be daylight when I start tonight or tomorrow morning. One trick about the hump I'll pass on is what i do.

Use the word "Hump" to hump as you know but if you want to use it to AI to the other end of the yard use just add a character "Humpt" for example and that will work fine. I'll show you in the next stream I post as I focus mainly out of Waycross these days.

Fast forwarding through some of my old videos will get you to some good stuff as well. I usually go over what I'm doing again regardless of the repetition. I'll try and spend some extra time on it next video.

That is about the best compromise I can offer

    Thanks
