    Hi Folks,

How are you making the DDS? Via the NVidia Plugin?

You should be able to open the coresponding shape with Shape Viewer and export the individual .dds textures as .tga files. Do whatever modifications you need to then re-export the .tga to an .ace file with alpha and or DXT1 compression to preserve the transparency using TGA Tool.

If you already have .dds textures just open them in a paint program that handles .dds. Paintdotnet does.
    Edit them, save them, done.
There is no reason to even deal with .aces.

Caveat. DDS is a lossy format... so actually EDITING a DDS file tends to lose pixel data. DDS files use 'lossy' compression which means that you will lose detail and color information compared to your original texture.

The loss of quality is barely perceptible.
depends on the capacity of the video card.
By the way the colleague ... is msts / open rails .
so it won't make much difference.

Here is a little more info on the .dds format and it's uses.

As Pete mentioned above, work on your textures as a .tga or a .bmp and only save as a .dds.

Exactly... Think of DDS like a PDF. Best for your final revision... but not your *working* copy.
