$29.99 for a year isn't a bad deal either, especially if you are able to also spend the same amount on a payware route.

Most of the MSTS discussion was covering Open Rails specific or compatible things anyways, people were just clicking it because it was first. So its fitting that the OR group is at the top of the page. Even though as someone who has played MSTS from the ripe old age of 3. Its saddening to see the king laydown his last crown.

I would tend to agree with this.

I seem to recall having encountered the MSTS "BIN Upgrade" at around the same time as Open Rails. Initially I wanted to stick to MSTS for the simple fact of being familiar with the program.

Some time back I just stopped using it, took the plunge to ORTS. Now all I ever use is the Activity Editor from MSTS.

Making everyone "buy" a membership essentially turns all the "freeware" items into "payware". I would suggest limiting downloads for non-members to perhaps two per week or even two per month. The price of admission for me personally is not an issue, but I do recall posts over the years where some folks would say that they couldn't afford to buy a route or locomotive pack. Just my 8¢ worth (inflation).

You want to make sure I never come back, implement this. How would it have been if I insisted that people pay for all the things on MY website?

Some non-members contribute routes, rolling stock, and just about everything else people could use for building their routes. These contributions take thousands of hours to create, and we should pay to download the odd thing because?

Here's an idea. There are several Commercial Providers that post their wears here, why not charge them for advertising? Some have people who promote their products, charge them too. Some of these commercial providers download route that say right in the readmes not for commercial purposes but stage their rollingstock on them to create their advertising to post here... they don't even ask permission. Whey not save bandwidth and give them the boot.

Alienating large portions of the community to save a few bucks in bandwidth, over what really amounts to a non-issue, is not exactly the play I would take if I ran TS.com

I get the feeling the overwhelming majority of activity in the file library in the last few years is from the Indian 'market'. North American content/downloads has basically fallen off a cliff. Not sure how that affects costs, or if it does...
