    Default If a Run8 V4 Wish list what would it look like

    Okay let the well wishes happen. What might you like to see in a V4 of Run8 besides .... trees and swaying grass in the gentle breezes

    I'll start it off as I would like to be able to schedule trains to the day of the week. Who's next

    1. Well my number one wish is for a radical improvement to the graphics engine. Yes I have heard all the arguments that Run 8 is focused on operations and multiplayer and that the eye candy of TSW or TSC (or any other modern game) is not a high priority. Well that holds for so long, but starts to become stale after a bit. The new Fitzgerald route is very nice and no one can deny the love and work that has been poured into bringing it to life. However there is still no getting away from the fact that 2D billboard trees and a small row of vegetation either side of the track to represent extensive forested areas is something from the MSTS era @2004. There are several independent sims running on the Unity engine - Derail Valley, Diesel Railcar Simulator and Simrail - all of which look so much better than Run 8 even at its best. And the point being, with these vintage graphics Run 8 struggles to stay at the very modest 30 FPS I have to set it at on my admittedly potato PC but then all the other sims - including TSW - run so much better (as do non railway titles like Snowrunner or WRC). Again I'm most emphatically not intending to put anyone's nose out of joint with the above, just stating things as I see them.

    2. Better sound. Track sound at least in the cab, even when coasting with power off, is not that good. We also need reverb over bridges and a bit of squealing and grind going round curves. A slider to vary horn volume, often far too loud in the cab, also needed.

    3. Support for proper timetable operation including control over the time trains spawn so you can set up for the whole day. Full support for passenger operations including timetables and terminal operations.

    4. Look at more vintage traction and rolling stock, maybe even steam or electric traction.

    5. Increased AI competence including the ability to throw (and reset) manual switches e.g. when leaving a yard.

    6. Complete overhaul of the e-commerce system, including access to re-download previous purchases and include an online account or record so you don't accidentally buy the same item twice. A shopping cart that supports multiple purchases in one transaction.

    That's it for now but will add anything else I think of.

    Continuation of the joined up routes concept. The Roseville sub release, i found disappointing. As it is an isolated route, like in any of the other train games.

    Plus Vern's 1 - 6 points, i concur with.

    The presentation of the goods & services, and the purchasing method, is archaic.

    Another QOL improvement… The ability to inspect and fully manage non player trains without giving up control of your own. e.g. A train passes you with a load of default boxcars and you want to check what they are from the “tagged” to buy from the shop. At present you can only do this if you stop your train, stop the AI train then take ownership of the latter. Likewise getting non player trains going from yards, you have to take control before allocating to AI control.

    And one more… More sophisticated routing control, I.e. the ability to assign destination locations or even tracks and go via commands as well, rather than relying on train descriptions or head codes.

    Sorry I meant to say the tagger shows the type of wagon so you can identify what you need to buy that's missing from your collection.

    Basically if it's a R8 boxcar you don't own it, the only problem comes when there is more than one pack of that specific vehicle type like some of the coal hoppers you still can't quite pinpoint which one to buy so a bit hit and miss.

    In the absence of a decent online record I now keep a handwritten list in a notebook, which I gradually tick off as I but more packs. However it would still be far better to view a proper account and list of what I actually own, or even have the shop prompt when you try and buy an item again - how hard would a, "You already own this item, do you really want to buy again?" algorithm/prompt be to implement?
