I think Higball runs a server using Linux but I could be wrong.

I'll second comments about rolling stock. I'm a railfan that enjoys all aspects of the railroad, from the business (corporate) side of it to operations to the rolling stock. SD60 and 70's, GP38's, GP9, high hoods, more Contrail, more BN, more CN, some love for shorelines like GWRR, WLE, NYSW, FGLW, Wisconsin & Southern, Lake State RR, leasers like CITX, CITIRAIL etc. So much potential and we're sitting stagnant with GE, BNSF, UP, CSX.

Better sounds. I thought V3 sounded good until I've seen on youtube these kids running mods on their V8 and it sounds like you're next to the real thing; horns even have an echo! Blows the V3 sounds out of the water IMO. I'll second a shopping cart and a prompt/warning that you're about to purchase something you already have.

I know designing routes with accuracy can be a lot of work so I'd rather see attention to rolling stock and audio first. But with routes, again, some shortline love and if we continue with these large Class 1 routes lets get out of Cali for a bit and FL/GA.

If there were tools and what not like we had with Microsoft Train Simulator, Open Rails, Trainz, and even Railworks/Trainsim World, I'd be all for trying to dip my hands into some repaints and further in Run8.

To me personally, that's majority of the reason I haven't bothered with it. If there are such tools, Apparently I've overlooked them, and may considering diving in, that is if I am even welcomed to this side of the world. It does seem to be a very tight-nit group from what I've gathered over the years..

Some time in future before i kick the bucket. I would like to see the SoCal routes connected to Roseville, if that is prototypical.

No tools, you've not missed anything.

I think each train sim enters the market trying to fill some gap that other sims have left open.

Run8 fills the multiplayer and High milage gaps.

TS Classic and Trainz fill the "build your own railroad" gap.

Derail valley filled the "VR trains" gap.

Each feature has pros and cons, I actually like that Run8 is closed off.

Trainz was always a pain with all its broken dependencies.

With Run8, I can hop on any server and I know I have the content needed to enjoy the experience. In a sense, the limited amount of content has been very unifying for the run8 community - it's active player base is only spread between a few basic routes, and there are always people on these routes.

For some, that's very unfortunate to hear...

Personally I think it would benefit Run8 especially if their game engine allows it.

But it's not my baby. I know in developing RTS I found it difficult or imposible in Unity (not being used by Run8) to create editors. I had full intention on having editors. I don't think it's game engine being the issue here but a business decision from the last time we heard John say he was totally against it.

    Thanks

Also would like to be able to just install all versions of rolling stock, directly into v3 or v4.

Just had to run the v3 installer again to update my wellcar purchases. Or better still keep all the DLC updated to the latest game version, on the store.

Agree with that Mike, it's a PITA as you have to run the installer then the latest update as well. Should install seamlessly to whichever version you have. Again where a proper e-commerce system would know and check which version of the game you want it for and proffer the download link accordingly.
