CP-KCS Merger Approved

Get ready for some new paint schemes as the CP-KCS merger was approved today. Should be interesting to see how they make their new brand appear!

Interesting you said that! The NS East End in Iron City,Al had a Derailment that caused some Interesting Mixed Freight & Intermodal Trains usually going straight to & from Birmingham( Irondale)-Atlanta,GA take The Atlanta-Chattanooga,TN Line & Chattanooga,Tn-Birmingham,Al( Irondale) via along same Route I live next to AGS North Sub. 245, 345, 244 to name a few. Combos, some with a few COFCs and normal Freight( some even had The Red+Yellow ones used for 345 3B Route Dump Service ). KCS was everywhere ( when it's usually on The AGS South more )! Grey Ghost AC44, SB Gevo, and a NS SD40-2! Next, BNSF isn't that rare, but a SD70MAC is. Ph.2 one trailed on a re-route! Then, 178 round up with CP SD70ACu Block-Letter HU/SI as Its Rear-DPu. Plus, They're changing KCS Train Symbols over to what CP wants. I've already combined CP-KCS Folders( but, each car still has Who Owns What, TFM, DH, THB, DME, Mid-South,etc. ).

Be no different than Guilford Rail changing to Pan Am, and now CSXT.

Will be disappointing to see the KCS Southern Belle scheme go away though.

I just find it laughable and ironic the STB and FRA have been after the big guys to get back to reality of railroading with better safety, etc, but then turn and give the approval for CSXT to buy Pan Am, for BNSF to take over the MRL lease, and now CP to merge with KCS. Kind of bizarre to see actually.. you'd think denying them instead of giving them what they want, would put them in their places.. shrugs.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, but not often we see any general discussion of the real railroads on here. Incidents however, can be a fine line too with the "know it all" crowd before the final reports even come out, as we have seen in the past..

That would be a definite improvement. From time to time, I have a general railroad question to ask and have no ware to turn.

We use to see 4 or 6 trains a day south of Fort Polk, LA a year ago, and never saw any value in spending much time at the Dequincy, LA train watching post. And the Pine siding could see a train tied down for days (even before COVID-19).

Traffic has at least doubled in the last six months. It still probably pales in comparison to Flagstaff, AZ or something. But people are already complaining. Meets appear to go very well at Pine. MOW might be the biggest hold up. These are casual observations.

It made the KCS Christmas Train very important last year. I was telling people an era was coming to an end. I'm not a fan of the Belle paint scheme. But this is a huge. I love trains. So naturally, I love KCS. I watch them whenever I can. So they will be missed.

I would like a sub-forum discussing real railroading here. It would help my simming.

Meanwhile, Jetblue and Spirit are being told they can't merge, which may be the first time that's happened since the 1970's (although I think United and USAir were told no in private without being told no publicly the early 2000's...).

You aren't kidding. I'm still dumbfounded by T-Mobile and Sprint merging, and now T-Mobile just bought out Mint Mobile.
