Default Prototype "New Trackviewer/Activity Editor" Design

This basically a continuation of the thread over on Elvas Tower titled "New TrackViewer"

    http://www.elvastowe...ew-trackviewer/

but wanted this separate to capture comments specifically about the screen shots etc, I'm showing in the referenced video. This is a concept/Design...Preliminary to say the least for an Activity Editor with the codebase of Openrails...or ORTS.... I started ...now a couple of years ago looking at the code for Openrails....I'm not a C# programmer but an old school straight line programmer before Object-Oriented languages were around...but I understand the concepts....So it's taken me a while to walk my way through the code....sometimes scratching my head at things I see...but trying to figure out how things work....Anyway....I decided to start looking at Trackviewer as a basis for doing Activity Editing....The video referenced in the link below is basically an update to where I'm at with a preliminary design for an ORTS Activity Editor. After viewing the video...about 15 minutes long...if you have any comments, criticisms, suggestions, or if you think that I shouldn't continue...please add them below....

My thanks to PerpetualKid for kindly helping me along this journey...the first part of the video is basically his work.

    Now on to the Video...

Thanks!, both links work now, there should be lots of interest in this....appreciate all the work you've put into this problem.

Having an additional option for an Activity Editor would be great. The one that's inside TSRE isn't too bad, but can be truly finicky. Especially when you got back to edit, and the times never save correctly, so you have to manually adjust them in the .act and .srv files.

I'll say this: If you can master the path editing and activity editing concepts.... it's really not that much of a stretch to have this be a 2D editor for placing static objects and possibly non-interactives like forest objects.

Unfortunately it's a huge stretch to have this become a track placement editor. Or is it?

    Eric,

Already working on the static objects...will probably need some mods on the ORTS code baseline....but that's why I started looking into a few things....After working with the toolbox code and now starting with the activity editor...I wanted to be able to....within....the 2d enviroment display trackside structures and then with the AE place a static object on track such as the attached image.

    Untitled.jpg

If I could do that then Activity specific objects near but not on the track was next......

I can't say I haven't thought about the track placement or even route generation....but that's a conversation for another day.....
